งานพัฒนาธุรกิจ จะมีความแตกต่างกันไปตามประเภทของธุรกิจและองค์กร แต่โดยรวมคือ มีหน้าที่วางแผนแนวทางด้านธุรกิจ ให้กับองค์กร เพื่อดูแล และรักษาฐานลูกค้าและตลาดเดิม ไปพร้อมๆ กับการพัฒนาหาสิ่งใหม่ๆ เพื่อขยายตลาด และเพิ่มฐานลูกค้าขององค์กร ทำให้งานพัฒนาธุรกิจเป็นงานที่จะต้องเข้าไปทำงานร่วมกับหลายๆ ฝ่าย
